They say that most writers tend to read a
lot. In my case, that is somewhat true. I will admit that I read more than the
average person, but not as much as some writers and bigger book worms do. I could definitely read a lot more.
But I did make a list showing most of the books I have read.
Of course I left out the dozens children’s books I plowed through between ages 3 to 12. I can’t remember most of those. Also the many cook books I have owned and used.
You will notice books like The Celestine Prophecy and a list of Richard Bach books. You can thank my Dad for those.
See, after my parents divorced, I lived
with my Dad up in the mountains from age 13 to 22. On weekends and in the
evenings, Dad would break out some of his favorite books and read them to me.
Or if he needed a break, he would hand the book to me and I would read it to
him. It was always something philosophical or inspirational.
And then you will notice a rather long list of steamy Sheikh/Desert/Arab romance novels. I can explain. Around age 23, I was living with my boyfriend at the time. I was browsing through the book aisle of a local supermarket. I kind of had a thing for men with olive skin, dark hair and foreign accents. Plus I adored the “hate-to-love” trope.
So when I saw a Harlequin romance novel called “Possessed By The Sheikh”, I read the synopsis on the back. I felt intrigued. So I bought it and thus read my very first romance novel, cover to cover. I loved it! Over the next 7 years, I would buy up and read as many similar books as I could.
It’s no wonder I later ended up marrying an Eastern man. That 6-year marriage ended in divorce. So I learned the hard way that REAL men are not like the ones in the books.
But reading all those romance novels did give me some foundation to build on in the world of love stories.
I have written dozens of erotica short stories in online forums (anonymous). Readers there would tell me they very much enjoyed them! So I started writing a Sheikh/Desert romance novel of my own. But it has been hiding away in a folder on my external hard drive, unfinished.
Instead, I took up writing a different kind of love story/novel which I want to get published in the future.
Then of course, you will see a few self-help books on the list. That being said, here is the list of books I have read. Please comment if you have read any of them and let me know what you thought:
